"You would be so excited to see what beauty and extraordinary colors are just below the surface of the Earth."
Scott Currie has experienced many years of the Colors In Motion project started by his sister, Linda DeHart, and expressed interest in contributing his own passion, rocks and gems, to a new collaboration. So late in August in the Oxford Hills region of Maine, Linda (artist), Scott (master potter), with his son Davin Currie (photographer) and Kaeza Fearn (composer-pianist) gathered to source the Colors In Motion November Touchstone. Scott approached some local mining operators to get access to their mine sites and diggings. The CIM Team was able to capture and experience in person the sights, sounds, smells, and textures and talk with one owner personally about his love of revealing earth's treasures. It was such a JOY to discover the colorful yield of our Earth in the form of crystals and minerals. How amazing to watch Scott, with pick in hand, unearth these treasures to be added to the Currie Family "rock hound" collection of two generations. Davin's camera, pointed into hidden places, brings to light these gems for our visual collaboration. Kaeza muses through the tactile presence of each discovery, attuning to music within the rocks. Linda paints the feeling of the whole experience by portraying the ground from which these crystals emerge. Digital compositor Christopher Graefe invites us into the earth to savor the brilliant forms harbored beneath. "Where Earth Sings" features a spectacular collections of colorful rocks, minerals, and gemstones from the local region of Maine as well as from around the world: Bornite, Rose Quartz, Rubellite Tourmaline, Barite Crystals, Labradorite, Garnets, Mica, Amethyst, Aquamarine, and many others.
