Humans evolved from bodies of water. They continue to seduce us, calling us back to their edges. Our embryonic, cellular experience remembers the primordial embrace.
In The Beginning beckons us to explore water's surface, in and through the constant flux of form and motion, floating immersed in its rhythm. This Touchstone grew from Christopher Graefe's passion for being in the water as an avid swimmer and sailor. "It is a love I developed over a lifetime. Filming and developing this Touchstone gave me the space where time and perception could be expanded. My soul is nourished as I share this celebration of my reverence and respect for water." Linda DeHart's watercolors underlie In The Beginning. "I have always been fascinated by the question, 'Is it coming into form or dissolving?' with my own paintings. It's a spiritual observation that nothing is static as I'm painting. Through his videography and compositing, Christopher enters the paintings again and dissolves them back to their beginnings, before evolving them into a new form."
